TEAM MEMBER SPOTLIGHT - Meet Tim Akin
We are delighted to introduce our newest member of the team - Tim Akin.
Tim joined us in September 2021, bringing with him a wealth of experience from our industry. He has spent the last decade working within a business development guise after completing his BA in Economics from Hertfordshire University.
To welcome him on board we asked some quick-fire questions to get to know him better.
Meet Tim Akin:
Tell us about your career before joining Pivot:
I started my career in the financial service industry obtaining a level 4 diploma in investment advice, as initially I was aspired to become a financial advisor. However, I soon realised pension planning wasn’t necessarily for me. I took an opportunity to work as a broker for a small commercial finance brokerage firm helping clients with secured and unsecured business loans, bridging loans and 2nd charges.
Most recently I joined Octopus Real Estate in 2018 as a Business Development Manager looking after brokers and introducers in the Southeast and West of England across bridging, BTL, refurbishment and development finance.
Describe your job in three words: Fast-Paced, Competitive and Rewarding.
What’s your office Nickname? I’ve only recently joined, so the team are still trying to figure one out for me! But if I were to choose one for myself it would be ‘The Fire Marshall!’
What’s the best thing about working for Pivot Finance? Everyone’s voice is heard. We have a collaborative culture, where we work together as a team to find and create solutions. As a lender, our first mode of approach is identifying reasons for how we can make a deal work rather than looking for reasons to decline, which I really enjoy!
What do you love most about working the short-term lending industry? There is so much motivation in the industry across the board at all levels. Our borrowers are motivated, our introducers/brokers are motivated and we as lenders are motivated! I think this is great, as it creates a culture in the industry for efficiency, proactiveness and sets a standard that things will get done and get done properly!
The characteristics make you good at what you do? Motivated, Commercially Savvy & Resilient.
One person (dead or alive) you would love to have dinner with? Thierry Henry (showing my colours here!)

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
